video in panoramas

Aldo,
1. Will streaming video (Flash) be possible in SPi-V?
I wonder why you didn't develop this idea descibed in 2004 in this article .
Maybe new Director 11 could help to solve this issue.
Good luck to SPi-V 1.4 which is one year old (SPi-V 1.4 beta1 was released one year ago).
2. What are you going to add to SPi-V 1.5?
Karol

Re: video in panoramas

The tricks I talked about in that article in 2004 have too many limitations to be of actual use. I have a half-baked extension at the moment that uses far better 'tricks' but never got round to release it because I did not like the performance I was getting. You see, the minute I release anything to do with video, 'all of you' want to do full screen, high quality panoramic video with SPi-V, and that is not (yet) going to work. Director 11 is not going to (magically) change that unfortunately, but there are some nice things coming up because of Director 11.

SPi-V 1.4 saw the light of day in July. Betas don't count ;-)

In 2005 I posted a SPi-V roadmap, and interestingly I have kept most my promises apart from not releasing the animated textures yet. But hey, you did get the timelapse extension... Animated textures will likely still happen as an extension for version 1.4.

At this point I don't know yet what changes will merrit a version 1.5. SPi-V 1.4 has quite some room yet ;-)

SPi-V 1.5 ? + documentation

Aldo,

I am a little bit worried that you will not release SPi-V 1.5.
It seems that Director 11 won't give huge changes to SPi-V.
How are you going to earn more money on licenses?
Many people bought unlimited license one year ago when it was published hopping that SPi-V will be still developed. It is still developed, but for a long time I don't see big changes in SPi-V.
Maybe you are going publish new extensions? What are they going to be?
Can you update this SPi-V roadmap, because it finishes on SPi-V 1.4?
You also mentioned in SPi-V roadmap about the documentation.
Have you added sth new to documentation for the last year?
This could help people to create more innovative solutions with SPi-V.
Karol

P.S. I just received "Recent content" e-mail from fieldofview and I see that you started to add documentation. Am I right?

Re: SPi-V 1.5 ? + documentation

Please calm down (and stop shouting). I never said there will be no SPi-V 1.5, and I never said I won't further develop SPi-V.

What I said was that at this point in time I don't know what new features should go into the core SPi-V.dcr file. There is a wealth of features I could add, but they would weigh down SPi-V.dcr for normal panorama viewing and that is not desirable. So instead I will focus on developing extensions for SPi-V 1.4, and improve the supporting utilities. If at some point I come up with a way to do something with SPi-V that I could not do before, SPi-V 1.5 may very well be the result. Or SPi-V 2. You never know. Even I don't at this point...

PS: a general piece of advice when buying software: buy it because you need it, buy it because you like what it does, but never ever buy a piece of software because you think it might give you great new features in the future. That is as true for SPi-V as it is for any other piece of software.

Re: video in panoramas

Hi Aldo,

Does your "half-baked" extension use Flash Encoded Video? Could it create results on par with this example? "Salle Douzies"

If so please do release it to the world =)

If not can you tell me what software package was used to create this example..
