post links, not code

Often when people ask for support or report an issue, they will include code to illustrate what they do in the post. While this is a great step to just posting 'feature X does not work', you can do me a greater pleasure: (also) post a link! And here's why:

  • The problem you are seeing may not lie with the snippet of code you posted. For example, it may be related with the version of SPi-V you are using, or even with the way you are embedding SPi-V in the page. Without that context, I will be staring at your code, at my code, trying to figure out what could go wrong, only to find out later that the problem lies elsewhere.
  • It takes time to copy/paste the code into a new document, create dummy images, and test the code. If you post a link, I can just visit that link and open my debugger, and/or open your xml file directly off your site in my authoring environment and see exactly what is going on.
  • I like looking at your panoramas ;-)
