SPi-V on Intel Macs

Shockwave is not yet fully compatible with Intel Macs, so neither is SPi-V. With default settings, Shockwave content can not be run in browsers that run natively on Intel Macs. However, it is possible to let a 'universal binary' run in Rosetta translation mode, reenabling Shockwave (and other plugins that are not yet running natively on Intel Macs).

I did try to have a look at SPi-V on an Intel iMac in the London Apple Store a couple of weeks ago, but it required an admin password to install Shockwave...

hopefully Macrobe will update the Shockwave viewer faster than they are planning to release a UB version of Photoshop (sometime between November and next April).

Word on the street

Word on the street Director mailing lists is suggesting a timeframe that is more positive than the Photoshop timeframe.

Apparently Adobe, along with many other developers were a bit blindsided by the januari release of Mac Intel machines. The initial machines were not supposed to be released until june... It is likely that Macromedia/Adobe set their schedules to that timeframe, let's hope they make it before or around that time.

I have a macbookpro when i

I have a macbookpro
when i go to the download page of macromedia,
i get an explanation page of how get safari starting with Rosetta.

But no deadline for the future UE release of Shockwave.

I just wait.

And that's all we can do...

wait...

Still waiting?

Any developments on Spi-v for Intel Macs?

Re: Still waiting?

Unfortunately, there have not been any developments that have been made public at this time. The waiting game continues.

Re: SPi-V on Intel Macs

I discovered this site a few days past - full of the most amazing beautiful images that my eyes have seen! They even can be played back within MacroMedia Director MX 2004 with lingo scripting.
I have a MacPro 2.6 dualcore intel xeon with the ATI Radeon X1900 XT graphics card - i had to set the safari app (apple+ i} and set the check mark for the app to run in Rosetta. The images playback smooth and beautiful - i have cable modem here in missouri usa and it take about 30 seconds to load. I would like to learn more about which qtvr head and camera, lens & equipment that were used to create these images.

Thanks! i be back

Re: SPi-V on Intel Macs

Thanks for you kind words. For more information about how to make panoramic images, consult sites like http://wiki.panotools.org, http://www.ptgui.com and/or http://stitcher.realviz.com

I personally find ~30 seconds a bit long, but the file you are downloading is upwards to 1.5 mb, so it is to be expected that it takes a couple of seconds.

Re: SPi-V on Intel Macs

Thanks i'll go check out that--

Well maybe its more like 15 seconds - depends on the net and what time it is between me and around the world

I understand the creation process of panos - I go to some really beautiful places in the world and would like to create VR movies of them. I have just bought the manfrotto 303sph vr head and would like to buy a new camera and lens for this type of work " if it does not cost a zillion bucks" - that is why i would like to learn what other people are using to acheive those type of results and its educational as well.

On my IntelMac when i published a app from Director with the Spi-V Director demo "the 2node landscape scene " it cannot launch - it can publish it, but it has a ghostBuster icon on the shockwave app.
